The oldest visitors to the Kingdom of Tonga, the world famous humpback whales, are back in town a month earlier than ex-pected. Surprising most industry experts, the whales have been spotted around the waters of Tongatapu and ‘Eua, and sightings have been reported as far north as Vava‘u.
Speaking with Tin Can Mail, Sam Tatafu from Deep Blue Diving said two pairs had been spot-ted around the Islands of ?Atata and Fafa off Tonga-tapu‘s northern coast. ?This is much earlier than expected? said Sam, ?but we‘re happy to see our old friends are back in tow
The whales pass through Tongan waters every year after spending the winter in the waters of the Ant-arctic, south of Australia. For more information on how to observe or per-haps even swim with these magnificent creatures while they‘re in Tonga, visit: thekingdomoftonga.com
Unlike Fiji, Samoa or Tahiti, the Kingdom of Tonga has never been affected by colonisation. Tonga today still remains proudly Tongan and true to its ancient cultures and traditions. Largely undiscovered by the Tourist hordes, Tonga remains the last unspoilt destination in the South Pacific.
